The CLIP Museum of Horrors

Widely admitted as one of the main historical and cultural landmarks for computer scientists in Madrid, and mentioned prominently in all tourist guides for them, is the the now world-famous CLIP Museum of Horrors. The Museum hosts a vast collection of truly remarkable and unforgettable pieces of the modern 'Arte dello Souvenir', which have been brought back by CLIP members from their trips all over the world and which they have generously donated to the Museum. The Museum has been invariably described by all our visitors as producing an 'unforgettable impact' on them. As a result of this impact, visitors knowledgeable of the existence of this remarkable collection have also frequently contributed to it in later visits.

The conditions for admitting a new piece in the Museum are the following:

  • The piece must cost less than 5 Euros or 5 Dollars. You are allowed to take the highest value of this two depending on the relative situation of the two currencies.
  • It has to be REALLY horrible, tacky, mondo, ... Actually, this is quite easy in most countries if you simply stick to traditional, mainstream souvenirs.
  • In order to adhere to the high standards of excellence that we maintain in the Museum you are allowed submission of only one piece per person per trip.
  • Pieces are submitted by simply putting them in the Museum upon return from a trip and announcing this fact on the group's mailing list. The popular response to this action typically ranges from cheering (if the item is truly horrible) to silence and you later finding that someone has moved your beloved piece from the Museum to the garbage can. This means it was simply not horrible enough, but don't despair: you can try again in your next trip.
