From the Airpot to the City Center

The easy way is to take a Taxi from the airport directly to the hotel/etc. A cheaper alternative is to take the Metro (Subway). The Barajas Airport Metro stations (on the right-top corner of the metro map) are situated at Terminal T2 (walking distance from Terminals T1 and T3) and Terminal T4. Trains leave every 5 minutes from 06:00 to 02:00. Take line number 8 (pink color) in the direction of the CITY CENTER (the stairs on the left) and get off at NUEVOS MINISTERIOS (last stop of line 8), then take another line depending on your destination.

Accessing the Campus

Our main location is in UPM's new Montegancedo Campus, located next to a residential area (the "Urbanizacion Monteprincipe") outside Boadilla del Monte, a small town 7 km SW of Madrid's center. Once you are at the Campus our offices are in the building marked by Bloque 3, look for room L-3301 (our lab, where many members of the group sit). Many others of us are scattered in several offices in Bloque 2 (e.g., Manuel Hermenegildo's office is in room D-2212 or D-3324, IMDEA).

Accessing the campus by Taxi

The easiest way is to take a a Taxi directly to the campus, please print and give to the taxi driver the instructions for accessing the Montegancedo campus in Spanish -- as some drivers might not know where it is exactly.

Accessing the campus by METRO (subway, using the new, shiny ML3 line)

Take the metro and go to Colonia Jardin (line number 10, dark blue color). Then take the new ML3 line (red and white colors) and get off at "Monteprincipe". When getting off the tram station turn to the right and walk for about 10 minutes through the main road (Avenida de Monteprincipe). There are signs on the road when approaching Facultad de Informatica, and the dark green buildings can be seen from the road. There is a map with this walk drawn here.

Accessing the campus by Car

  • From downtown Madrid (map):

Take the N-V / A5 out (freeway to Portugal, direction "Talavera"). The N-V / A5 can be reached from the "Plaza de España" area, or simply by following the M-30 (the first ring road around Madrid) around to the southwest until you find it. Follow the N-V / A5 until you reach the M-40 (second ring around Madrid) and take a right into the M-40, to go north (i.e., towards the N-VI / A6). Exit the M-40 at exit number 36 (road "M-511 to Boadilla"), and follow the signs to "Facultad de Informatica". Alternatively, take the N-VI / A6 out (freeway to La Coruña) until you reach the M-40 (second ring around Madrid) and take a left into the M-40, to go west (i.e., towards the N-V / A5). Exit the M-40 at exit number 38, and follow the service road and the signs to "Facultad de Informática".

  • From the airport:

the fastest and easiest thing is to take the M-40 all the way around the south of Madrid. Upon exiting the airport follow indications for M-40 south (direction N-III / A-3, N-IV / A4, N-V / A5, etc.). In normal traffic conditions it should take less than 30 minutes (but be careful with rush hours).

Accessing the campus by BUS

The campus is very well connected by BUS to the city center and Ciudad de la Imagen (a commercial center located between the city and the campus which has some hotels also, e.g., i-Hotel). Basically the buses go through Colonia Jardin metro station (A), Ciudad de la Imagen (B)and Facultad de Informatica (C)and back:

If you are comming from the city center, then first you have to take the metro to Colonia Jardin metro station (line 10, blue color), and then take one of the following buses:

  • BUS-591: This is a students bus that goes directly from Colonia Jardin to Facultad de Informatica and back, it does not stop on the way, so just get off when it stops at the CS Dept.
  • BUS-571 and BUS-573: These are public service buses that pass through Colonia Jardin , Ciudad de la Imagen and Facultad de Informatica, you can use them in order to go to the campus/city/etc. Note that: (1) payment is done directly to the driver; (2) if you are going to the campus then say that you are going to MONTEPRINCIPE; and (3) in order to get off you have to push the ring button. IMPORTANT: When you take these buses to Facultad de Informatica, at some point they pass under the M-40 highway and then turn to the right, the faculty's stop is the 3rd one from that point (A in map-3), be careful not to mistook it with the 2nd stop which is near another university.

Here are detailed instructions for traveling by bus between Colonia Jardin, Ciudad de la Imagen and Facultad de Informatica -- time tables are available in the buses time tables section).
