SUMMARY: /etc/mnttab: What are those numbers after "dev="?

Hi,
Thanks for the prompt replies!

Basically you're not supposed to edit /etc/mnttab, and some people said it
gets rewritten on boot anyway.... I was referred to "man metaroot" and the
manual "unmirroring root" in the index.Very helpful.

What I had to do was to mount my detached root partition under /mnt and run
metaroot, which made the _correct_ modifications to the system file (as
opposed to my deleting all the DiskSuite items) and vfstab for me. Then I
modified the rest of vfstab myself and presto! Here's the command:
metaroot -k /mnt/etc/system -v /mnt/etc/vfstab -c /mnt/etc/opt/SUNWmd/mddb.cf
(the extra parameters were to specify the correct location of the files)

(Then I created an alias in the bootPROM for the backup root partition, and
I can now boot on my backup config if I have a problem with the upgrade I'm
doing on the default partitions.)

THANKS for the help from these folks:
